Dear Interested Climbers of the Cape
As you may know, SANCF has over the past few years (under the fantastic guidance of Neil Margetts, and now, a highly competent George Stainton) been on a mission to bring together competition climbing in South Africa.
In order for them to be officially recognised and supported by SASCOC, the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee, they/we need to implement the necessary structures which fall under their methodology of running shop. We would like to be associated with SASCOC so that Competition Climbing can be recognised as an international competitive sport in SA, for climbers who compete to be awarded National Protea colours, to gain entry into international climbing competitions such as the Bouldering World Cup, World Games and ultimately the Olympics where Climbing will be a new event (albeit in 2020).
What do they want from us?
They basically need us to formalise a proper structure for Climbing in the Western Cape along the lines of Clubs (preferably one in each region, with an executive committee that has regular meetings and annual comps), and a central committee guided by the SANCF. A lot of the groundwork has already been done by George Stainton and Patrick Black, we would pretty much just be assisting in the implementation of it.
If you are interested in hearing more about this and/or getting involved, please join us at 3 Brenda Road, Plumstead at 20.00 on Wednesday 30 May. We will be running through requirements of SANCF, a plan of action for the next three months (as we need to formalise structure by August), voting in the Executive Committee (Chair, Vice, Treasurer and Secretary) of the SANCF Western Cape Committee as well as other portfolios which include (and may change):
- Training and Gyms
- Climber Representative for Primary Schools
- Climber Representative for High Schools
- Climber Representative for Open
