Johannesburg Primary Schools Off to a Good Start

Johannesburg traditionally has had a very strong primary school league. This year we have added 2 more schools to make a total of 9 schools participating. Some of the schools such as Crawford Lonehill Prep, and St John’s were inundated with over 40 keen aspirant climbers, and had to turn many away.
Term 2 was where we started with the friendly comps. The primary objective of these comps is to get the kids climbing and not to emphasize the competitive side of things. Certain schools such as St Peters, St The Ridge, St John’s and Crawford agreed to host, and each hosting school determined the format of the day. We divided the league into an A and B league. This way we were able to have the top climbers challenged and the first timers not feel overshadowed and compete equally with other peers at the same time. This is a great way to gently introduce our young newcomers to their first comps. They enjoyed them immensely, with huge potential showing for our future.
Looking ahead to term three the following dates have been set aside for the more formal competitions with the intent of selecting climbers for the Gauteng team;
Fri 23 & Sat 24 July - Selection Competition 1
Fri 30 & Sat 31 July - Selection Competition 2
Friday 13 August - Final Comp at WonderWall
We wish our boys and girls all the best but most important to be safe and have fun.
