A good vibe filled the air as the competitors trickled into the Climbing Barn early on Saturday morning. Eyes shot straight up and all around as each person scoped out all the new routes set for them as they walked in. 40 climbers started off the day on their first route, battling it out against their first challenge, all done with friendly camaraderie and support for their fellow climbers.
The qualifying rounds flew by as climbers were left with the option of taking the whippers or sending! Guys and girls alike displayed phenomenal effort and commitment to their routes. Semis saw a new energy from the climbers, committed dyno’s, big cutlooses, and some impressive body-tensioning screams pleased the crowds while the competitors psyched themselves up for their turn.
The finalists ripped it out of the bag on their last route, displaying some of the best climbing of the day. Finalists swung in all directions through the roof; or clung on, grip after grip, on their super crimpy sequences.
The comp was a great success, big moves, big roofs, and big falls. The crowd loved every entertaining second of it. In the end, a fine display of some great climbing and serious commitment gave us our finalists in each category
Special thanks must go out to the route setters and judges that helped out before and during the competition, as well as our sponsors: 5.10, So-ill, and Edelrid who provided great prizes.
