Ermelo Mountain Club soon to have its own indoor wall
Ermelo Mountain Club was founded in October 2011, and already has more than 20 active members. To date experienced and beginner climbers are welcome to attend club meets on Tuesday evenings at the ‘Hervormde Kerk’ in town. The first two visits are free where after a climber needs to apply for membership. The EMC also makes regular visits out to rock.
The problem is that Ermelo is on the Mpumalanga Highveld, and gets very cold during winter, so the club has started to look for a place to put up an indoor facility. The Ermelo Country Club was approached, and gave permission to convert a singles squash court into an indoor boulder cave.
EMC is now actively working to generate the funds required to build a proper indoor boulder wall with two easy sport routes, and has already had its first fundraiser on 5 May, selling hotdogs and asking for donations. Larger local companies will also be approached in the coming weeks.
Large donations can be paid into the club’s bank account, or via the Ermelo Country Club (registered NPO).
