This last Saturday and Sunday, August 30 -31, Arco (ITA) hosted the last IFSC World Cup in Speed before the Lead, Speed, and Paraclimbing World Championships in Gijón (ESP) in September. The World Cup was a part of the Rock Master Festival that was also held the same weekend, making the northern Italian city the place to be this weekend for climbing fans of all stripes!

IOC President visited the Sports Lab
"On August 21, IOC President Thomas Bach came to the Sports Lab and visited the sport climbing venue, along with the other sports areas," says IFSC President Marco Scolaris. "I welcomed President Bach and the IOC delegation thanking him for the opportunity given to the IFSC athletes. After that, President Bach spent almost half an hour with our Athletes, who illustrated the sport through the 3 disciplines and took him close to the action."

If ever Team South Africa at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China had aspirations of soaring up the medals table, they would have been boosted by an inspirational young speaker on Monday.
Petite redhead Sam Stainton gave the team of 55 an upbeat promotional talk showcasing the sport of climbing and spoke with a maturity beyond her years.

This last Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 20 - 22, the 2014 IFSC Boulder World Cup Series pulled into its penultimate stop in Haiyang, China, while the 2014 Lead series kicked off and the Speed series picked up again after Baku!
The competition is the IFSC’s first of three - discipline World Cup of 2014, and there's sure to be something for everyone in the beachfront city of Haiyang!

Thrilling action, a new female Speed World Record, and a total of five winners are the results of a fascinating weekend of climbing in Wujiiang (CHN). Alina Gaidamakina and Stanislav Kokorin claimed their titles as the world's fastest climbers in 2013 winning the overall IFSC Speed Climbing World Cup 2013.
